For The Oncoming Corner #10, artist Ulrika Gomm is invited to share some of her recent work, and with that as a starting point enable us to reflect together upon the creation of the state, the idea of the nation, where we as well are creators and upholders of those systems.

Ulrika Gomm will bring three texts to the space; a poem, fragments of political speeches and a flag; for this occasion this compilation of texts will be named Building nation and bodies.

Ulrika Gomm’s work often takes form in a hybrid of text; printed matter, readings, and video; animated sequences and documentary footage, with the purpose to scrutinize applications and comprehensions of power structures, language systems and mental concepts. Language works as dominating order and perpetrator of violence, and at the same time there is the possibility to use it as a communicative liberating tool. She is interested in the constant occurring shifts, the difficulties of benaming, the constant flow, the attempts to stop it and the understanding of the impossible in this, an endless ongoing variability. Ideas and visions are being produced, using words to communicate, persuade, discuss. A shift of meaning might occur, in the eye of the reader or in the ear of the listener, here new dreams and visions might be born or crushed.
