For The Oncoming Corner #13, artist Carlos Motta is invited to screen and discuss his series of film essays NEFANDUS TRILOGY (2013-2015), which investigate pre-Hispanic and colonial homoeroticism and expose the imposition of European categories of knowledge, including sexuality, through violence and force during and after the conquest of the Americas.
In addition to screening the films, Carlos would like to propose having a discussion around the seemingly universal use of the term and concept 'queer'; an Anglocentric term and category that is amply used in the Global South often without considering how its conceptual frameworks (Western philosophy and critical studies) can potentially reproduce forms of colonial knowledge.
