For The Oncoming Corner #3, Robyn Hillman-Harrigan and Lillian Gerson are invited to talk about their work in founding the Rockaway Rescue Alliance and the Shore Soup Project, which they are running with the support of fellow Rockaway residents, businesses, and friends, in response to Hurricane Sandy.
The Shore Soup Project started as an emergency relief effort, cooking hundreds of meals in their apartment kitchen and delivering them door to door to the people of Rockaway. The project is now expanding to a include a winter-long storefront and community space based out of Veggie Island, offering employment for local youth and providing the neighborhood with pay-what-you-can soup.
Robyn and Lillian will share stories, pictures, and poems of their experiences living, working, and organizing in Rockaway post-Sandy.
